Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions can affect muscle strength, balance, coordination, walking and movement control. Symptoms may also include muscle stiffness, tremor, spasticity and increased fatigue. Training aims to support smoother and safer movement and maintain functional capacity in everyday life. The Finnish Current Care Guideline for Parkinson’s disease recommends beginning regular physical activity as soon as the diagnosis is confirmed. Rehabilitation can improve walking speed, stride length and balance control and reduce falls.
Power Plate training uses whole-body vibration to activate the neuromuscular system while individually selected exercises are performed on the platform. Training can be divided into short periods and performed with hand support or other assistance when needed. We can practise weight shifting, postural control, stepping, lower-limb strength, balance and rising from a chair.
A 2023 meta-analysis of nine randomised trials involving 346 people with Parkinson’s disease found that whole-body vibration training improved motor function and walking stability. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of 14 studies found that vibration training improved fundamental gait parameters in people with Parkinson’s disease. A meta-analysis of seven trials involving people with multiple sclerosis found that whole-body vibration training increased knee-extensor strength. The Finnish Current Care Guideline for multiple sclerosis also states that exercise improves motor function and reduces MS-related fatigue.
The evidence is strongest for Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. For other neurological conditions, the suitability of Power Plate training is assessed individually according to symptoms, functional capacity, balance, spasticity, fatigue and the rest of the person’s care plan.
Power Plate can be integrated alongside care and rehabilitation for neurological conditions as individually planned training that supports muscle strength, balance, walking, coordination and everyday functional capacity. Training takes into account the diagnosis, stage of the condition, medication timing, balance, muscle stiffness or spasticity, sensory changes, fatigue and any mobility aids. Training begins when health is stable and exercise has been assessed as safe.
